Caravan Salon Dusseldorf

la strada exhibited their full range of vehicles at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf (28th August until 4th September, 2011). The Mercedes vehicles, Nova (L and M) and the  Regent (L and S) took pride of place. Alongside was the full range of Avanti models on a Fiat base and la strada's new Fano on a Renault.

The new Fano has a similar layout to the Avanti C, but at 6.2 metres long, just a little shorter. It has been developed with the French market in mind and, as yet, right-hand-drive models are not planned for the British market.

la strada are sponsoring the 2012 Cape-Kilimanjaro Camp Challenge, sending 10 Fanos on this 136 day, 20,000 kilometre drive through 11 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. This challenge will certainly put these German hand-built vehicles to the test. To find out more about this expedition go to www.camp-challenge.de where you will find more details.

Also on the stand was a Regent S, based on the Sprinter NGT. This vehicle is designed to be either petrol or natural gas (CNG) driven. More and more filling stations are displaying signs for CNG ( Compressed Natural Gas, pressurised at 200 bar) as an alternative for LPG ( Liquified Petrolium Gas, low pressure: 8 bar) that is common in The UK. Across Europe there are over 2,500 CNG filling stations, while in the UK there are less than 20! Mercedes plan to have refilling equipment at some of their depots and distribution centres, but it may be some time before we can take advantage of this product. The Regent S is also produced on a Sprinter run on diesel.
